Hi there! My name is Ali Vee. I started Flight of the Wallflower in 2015, originally with another blogging site. I fell in love with writing when I was young, and have even been called weird for loving to write, even research papers. Flight of the Wallflower started out as a mental health blog, but evolved into not only mental health, but also travel, nature, and hiking. Hiking and travelling help me lower the levels of depression and anxiety.
I have struggled with depression and anxiety since I was a baby, but was officially diagnosed in 2014. I started to understand myself more, and because of that, I wanted to help others understand themselves so I began advocating and writing about mental health that same year. I also battle with binge eating disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.
In 2017, at age 26, I finally discovered what I wanted to do with my life. It involved going to college, so I enrolled in Purdue University Global. I will graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2021, and will continue my education to receive my Master’s degree in Criminal Justice in (hopefully) 2023. I am a member of Psi Chi and The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS).
I have a large but supportive family, consisting of my parents, three sisters, three brothers-in-law, four nieces, and two nephews. I have a therapy dog named Finn, who is my best friend and adventure buddy. I rescued him (he rescued me, too) in December 2016, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
My hobbies and interests include writing, hiking, travelling, watching sports, playing video games, and reading.
I have had the opportunity to hike in places like Louisiana (my home state), Texas, New Mexico, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Arkansas, Missouri, and in 2016, Japan. I would love to continue my journey to hike in all 50 states and travel the world more.
